PROGRAMS: GIRLS

Program Description

Lead Coach: Andrea Propp

Summary: For female riders aged 13 and up with intermediate riding skills

Cost: $1800

Session Times: 30+ training sessions from November to March on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 – 9:00pm at Canada Olympic Park (COP).  Program includes 5 mountain riding days (Saturdays or Sundays) at select mountains depending on conditions and competitions.  Mountains most frequented: Lake Louise, Sunshine, Norquay, and Nakiska.

The program begins in November with weekly dry-land training sessions where riders will learn how to engage and utilize important muscles for snowboarding, explore the psychological side of sport preparation, and set goals for the season. On-snow training starts as early as the last weekend of November, and goes to as late as the last weekend in March (weather dependent).

The CSC Girls Program is designed to promote fun and progression in all aspects of snowboarding in a female-friendly environment. The riders in this program have experience on their snowboards and have the drive to become better all-round freestyle snowboarders. They should be comfortable with natural obstacles and capable of airing over small jumps.

The focus of this program is to pattern specific riding skills such as improving basic riding skills (both regular and switch) as well as becoming comfortable with all aspects of the terrain park (half-pipe, jumps, rails) both at COP and occasionally in the mountains. The riders in the program explore the risk and limits of snowboarding in a safe managed environment with a professionally certified and experienced coach (Andrea has been coaching with CSC for 4 seasons).

The program instills basic ethics of snowboarding, while promoting team bonding and learning. There is no specific specialization into a snowboard discipline; all aspects of snowboarding and snowboard competition will be focused on. The girls will be encouraged to register in local Boardercross, Half-Pipe and Slopestyle events that are suitable to their abilities throughout the season.

Training camps are also organized throughout the season to increase the quantity of training and help promote a team atmosphere. Camps during the season are available at an extra cost to cover the expenses of the trip and, in the past, have been held at places like Panorama (3-day) and Whistler (5-day). These camps vary in length and location based on Team interest and seasonal variances.

The total program cost is $1800.00 for the 20-week program including 30+ on-snow sessions at COP, 5 mountain days, and 4 dry-land training activities (ex: gymnastics center, personal trainer, yoga).  Club members can pursue more training on a private one-to-one coaching basis (depending on coach availability) for an additional charge.  The coaching staff and coach trainers are among the most experienced and supported on the continent.  Optional costs include event registration fees.
